Diary of a Tiki-tern: Brendan Anderson
Working as an Intern with the Digital Tiki team over the summer was a blast. Through the course of the summer I took on new and challenging projects that always kept me critical thinking. It gave me the right amount of real-world experience in a relaxed setting. I was able to work independently when I wanted, while getting insightful advice from Lauren (Marketing Manager). It was nice to be able to freely ask questions when I needed to, unlike many internships. The Projects I was assigned were very beneficial; they were real marketing and business projects I can expect to see in the workforce. I worked on research projects, website/logo development, and also Photoshop designs. It was easy to incorporate the skills and knowledge I learned in College into the work I performed at Digital Tiki. After accomplishing a project, it was a great feeling knowing you contributed useful material to the business. The real-world knowledge I gained on a daily basis was priceless. The completion of this internship gave me the confidence that I can succeed in the real-world.
The culture at Digital Tiki is unbeatable. Everyone is genuinely interested in the wellbeing of each other. The people you work with on daily basis can make or break a job; fortunately the Digital Tiki team always brings a positive attitude to the workplace. The atmosphere is professional but also laid back. If you have summer activities outside the office they are flexible with scheduling. I had tennis matches weekly and they were supportive in letting me leave early and wishing me good luck. Throughout the summer I gained new friends with everyone at the office. I highly recommend the Digital Tiki internship to anyone who is willing to challenge themselves, work hard, develop marketing skills and is interested in gaining valuable experience.
About Brendan
Digital Tiki Marketing Intern – Summer 2010
I am a student at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth MN. This coming fall I will be a senior with plans to graduate with a Management major in spring 2011. I am currently Captain of the St. Scholastica Men’s Tennis Team. I am also a member of SAAC, (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) which is a committee that provides insight and ideas on the well-being of student-athletes at the College. I am always excited for new adventures and opportunities to challenge myself.
Last year I decided I needed an edge on my competition, so I researched a variety of company internship programs. I stumbled across a bunch of appealing internships, but none of them caught my attention as much as the Digital Tiki Marketing Internship. Personally, I knew working with a smaller company would provide me with more benefits than working in a large organization. My primary responsibilities over the summer included assisting in various marketing/advertising strategies, creating various publications, updated publications, create and maintain viral projects, research and analyze marketing effectiveness, and website development.
After graduation I plan to live in the Twin Cities and be apart of the Business Management/Marketing field within a company. I know I can bring the knowledge and experience I gained while working at Digital Tiki into any venture I get involved with in the coming years.
